This is an online course, where all major lecture and lab exams as well as the final exam, will be completed in a proctored environment. You will be required to complete work daily in accordance with the schedule outlined in the syllabus. Attendance is measured by completed of assignments and is described below in the "Attendance Policy" under "Course Policies" section.
You should plan on spending at least 5 hours per day, 5 days per week completing assignments and studying to be successful in this course.

Study of the structure and function of human anatomy, including the neuroendocrine, integumentary, musculoskeletal, digestive, urinary, reproductive, respiratory, and circulatory systems. Content may be either integrated or specialized. Anatomy and Physiology II is the second course in a two semester sequence which examines the systems of the human body using an integrated approach.
Prerequisites: Biology 2401 with a grade of "C" or better.

Use anatomical terminology to identify and describe locations of major organs of each system covered.
Explain interrelationships among molecular, cellular, tissue, and organ functions in each system.
Describe the interdependency and interactions of the systems.

Use critical thinking and scientific problem-solving skills, including, but not limited to,inferring, integrating, synthesizing, and summarizing, to make decisions, recommendations, and predictions.
Textbook: Anatomy Physiology-The Unity of Form and Function, 9th Edition, 2021, Saladin, McGraw-Hill. Packaged with Connect access code. This can be purchased from the bookstore or directly from McGraw-Hill. Please note that you do NOT need the hard copy of the textbook, but you MUST purchase Connect access, because the majority of your assignments will be through this platform. If you have previously purchased Connect access for Saladin 9th ed for 2401, this access code will be good for 12 months, and you may not need to purchase it again.

All Exams are closed book, closed note, individual effort exams and will be proctored using Honorlock. Academic Integrity is taken very seriously at Blinn College
- There will be four lecture exams that are timed, will include material from lecture, textbook and Connect resources, and may consist of a mixture of multiple choice and true/false questions.
- Make-up exams will not be given for unexcused absences; however, if you miss an exam, you may use your percentage score on the final exam at the end of the semester to substitute for the missed exam.
- If you don’t use the final exam percentage to replace a missed exam score, you may use it to replace your lowest lecture exam grade.
- There will be four lab exams during the semester.
- The lab exams will include pictures of tissues, cells, microscope slides and other preserved laboratory specimens presented within the lab module on eCampus and from Tophat. Students will be required to identify these specimens or answer questions about their function.
- It may also include questions that require the student to analyze and interpret scientific data or answer objective questions over experiments or procedures performed.
- Lab Exams made be made up only with verifiable documentation (see below).
Final Exam: The final exam is cumulative and will be given on the last day of class.
- Your McGraw-Hill Connect access contains many helpful resources for you to guide your study of Anatomy & Physiology, including Anatomy & Physiology Revealed (APR), practice assignments, and required homework assignments.
- For every chapter we cover, you will have at least three assignments, Learn Smart, Homework and a Chapter Quiz. This will take the bulk of your time in this course.
- Supplemental lecture videos are also provided within eCampus that covers the same material that is in your textbook.
- It is highly recommended that you complete the learning outcomes while you are accessing Learn Smart or watching the lecture videos.
- The lowest two required SmartBook or Homework (worth 10 points each) assignments, or a single Chapter Quiz (20 points) will be dropped to cover computer problems, illness, or other unanticipated problems.
- Missed online homework cannot be made up. No late work is accepted.
- Discussion Boards are found within eCampus in their own module
- You will be required to participate in a brief weekly discussion
- To receive full credit for this assignment, you will need to post a response to the prompt and reply to another student's prompt
Lab Work: Grades for the lab work category will consist of online work completed within TopHat and sometimes in McGraw-Hill Connect. The lowest two lab grades will be dropped to cover absences or illness. Please pay special attention to the schedule for the week, to make sure that you do not miss lab assignments within Connect.

The following are the components of your grade
- Major Exams: Four major exams covering the lecture material from each Unit. Information from the laboratory experiments may be included on major exams. Major exams will account for 40% of the final grade.
- Laboratory Exams: Four laboratory examinations on knowledge and skills acquired through laboratory activities, covering histological slides, models, dissections, and any other lab work deemed appropriate by the instructor. There will be one lab exam for each unit module. Laboratory exams will account for 20% of the final grade.
- Connect Reading Assingments, Homework, Chapter Quizzes and Discussion Posts: All the assignments performed through the Connect platform that are lecture based, and your activity within the Discussion Board, will account for 10% of your final grade.
- Laboratory Assignments: All the lab assignments will be completed using the Tophat platform and occasionally a few modules in Connect. This will be outlined in your schedule. All of the laboratory assingments will account for approximately 10% of the final grade.
- Final Exam: There will be a comprehensive exam covering the entire course. The final exams will account for 20% of the final grade.

How to Succeed in this Course
Science courses may be challenging and difficult. Most successful students spend two to four hours studying per week for each credit hour of the course. Since this is a summer session course, we are compressing 4 weeks of work into one week. And this is an online course, so please plan on spending anywhere from 25-35 hours per week completing assignments, watching lectures and studying for exams.
- Have access to all the materials and technology required for this course (webcam, microphone, computer, reliable internet, etc).
- Attend all classes. Each lecture builds on the previous lecture. Stay ahead of the material.
- Come to class prepared by reading the textbook and/or lab manual beforehand and taking notes before class to improve success.
- If you have a question during lecture, go ahead and ask it. Chances are that at least three other students have this same question.
- Know your deadlines and course policies by looking at the syllabus, instructor announcements, and eCampus dates, schedules, and news items.
- Work through lots of practice problems in addition to your homework.
- Form study groups with your peers.
- Ask your professors for help, visit office hours, and, if needed, request an appointment to see your instructor one-on-one.
- Be prepared when you visit with your instructor and have questions related to content ready.
- Seek help from Blinn College’s tutoring services, if needed.
- Be responsible for your own learning by actively engaging in the course.

Students will be provided with laboratory safety training during the first week of class. Students are expected to follow all safety rules including rules related to proper lab attire. Closed toe shoes are required in the laboratory. Students that fail to follow this rule, will be required to leave the lab and will be assigned an unexcused absence for the class day.
Attendance is required and recorded even for this 100% online course. This will be assessed strictly by assignments that are turned in. You must turn in the weekly assignments to be counted present for class that week. If the online assignments are not turned in on time, you will be counted absent, and the following policy will be enforced.
- One missed assignment (any assignment due that date not completed and/or submitted on time) equals one absence.
- Six missed assignments (any assignment due that date not completed and/or submitted on time) equal two weeks' worth of absences and then the student will be administratively withdrawn from the course.
- There will be no makeup assignments for missed due dates. You have two dropped assignments available to you from each section of lecture and lab to account for illness.

Academic Integrity is taken very seriously in this course, especially during proctored exams. If you are suspected of cheating, a Student Integrity Violation Report will be submitted will a full accounting to Academic Affairs.
Policy for proctored exams includes the following:
- Exams must be taken in a quiet environment, with absolutely no talking by the student or anyone else. Students may not read the questions out loud.
- Student must not wear hats, sunglasses, ear buds, smart watches, headphones, air pods, or anything else that covers the eyes or ears. Reading glasses as necessary are acceptable.
- Resources of any kind are not to be used during proctored exams. This includes but is not limited to notes, books, electronic devices, scratch or blank paper, pens or pencils, personal assistants, etc.
- Eyes must be kept on the screen at all times. If eyes wander away from the screen, it will be assumed that you are cheating. A suggestion for those who need to look away is to close your eyes for a moment, if you need to think about a question, so it is clear your eyes are not wandering.
- You are responsible for having access to sufficient internet access. Technical difficulties will not be an excuse for missing an exam, or running out of time during an exam. Once you are out of the exam, you will not be allowed back in.
