Description


3 lecture hours and 3 lab hours per week; 96 total contact hours. Credit: 4 semester hours.

Study of the structure and function of human anatomy, including the neuroendocrine, integumentary, musculoskeletal, digestive, urinary, reproductive, respiratory, and circulatory systems. Content may be either integrated or specialized. Anatomy and Physiology II is the second course in a two semester sequence which examines the systems of the human body using an integrated approach.

Requisites

Prerequisites: Biology 2401 with a grade of "C" or better.

Course Requirements


Exam and Activities

Lecture Exams

There will be four lecture exams worth 40% of your final grade. All should be proctored.

Exam format:  Exams may consist of any of the following: multiple choice, matching, diagrams, fill in the blank, and short answer. Exams will NOT be take-home or open book exams.

Exam materials:  Lecture exams will be given in the lab and proctored by the instructor. Exam is either paper exam or on eCampus/Connect.

Exam policies: The use of notes, textbooks, lab manuals, cell phones, laptops, headphones, or other electronic devices is NOT allowed during the exam.  Talking or leaving the classroom while taking the exam is not permitted unless there is an emergency situation.  If a student leaves during the exam, the exam must be turned in and graded as is. The student will not be allowed to complete the remainder of the exam for a grade.

Make-up Exams: Make-up tests will only be offered to those with excused absences and proper documentations, no exceptions. Excused absences are described in the "Attendance Policy" section below. Refer to the "Make-up Policy" section below.  Exam grades will not be dropped or replaced.

Lab Exams

There will be 4 laboratory practical exams worth 20% of your final grade. All should be proctored.

Exam format:  Lab exams cover lab activities and material found in the lab manual. The exam may consist of any of the following: multiple choice, matching, diagrams, and fill in the blank. You may be asked to refer to images.

Exam materials:  Lab exams 1, 3, and 4 will be online and held in the computer lab.

Exam policies: The use of notes, textbooks, lab manuals, cell phones, laptops, headphones, or other electronic devices is NOT allowed during the exam.  Talking or leaving the classroom while taking the exam is not permitted unless there is an emergency situation.  If a student leaves during the exam, the exam must be turned in and graded as is. The student will not be allowed to complete the remainder of the exam for a grade.

Make-up Exams: Make-up tests will only be offered to those with excused absences and proper documentations, no exceptions. Excused absences are described in the "Attendance Policy" section below. Refer to the "Make-up Policy" below. Exam grades will not be dropped or replaced.

Lab Quizzes 

There will be four-five lab quizzes worth 5% of your course grade. 

Lab Quiz Format:  Lab quizzes are to be taken as scheduled at the beginning of the lab and may include of any of the following: multiple choice, matching, diagrams, fill in the blank, and short answer. A grade of zero will be recorded for missed quizzes due to tardiness or unexcused absences. Arrive to class on time to avoid receiving a zero for missing a quiz.  

Cumulative Final Exam

The Final Exam is a mandatory comprehensive final worth 20% of your course grade. Final exam should be proctored and taken through ProctorU service.

Exam format: The exam may consist of multiple choice, fill in the blank, diagrams, and matching.

Exam policies: The use of notes, textbooks, lab manuals, cell phones, laptops, headphones, or other electronic devices is NOT allowed during the exam.  Talking or leaving the classroom while taking the exam is not permitted unless there is an emergency situation.  If a student leaves during the exam, the exam must be turned in and graded as is. The student will not be allowed to complete  the remainder of the exam for a grade

Make-up Exam: There is no final exam make up.

Quizzes and Assignments 

There will be a number of ONLINE quizzes during the course of this class. All of them will be worth 10% of your course grade.

Lecture Quiz Format:  Quizzes are all to be taken on eCampus and on Connect as scheduled (see schedule) and may include of any of the following: multiple choice, matching, diagrams, fill in the blank, and short answer.  A grade of zero will be recorded for missed quizzes.

Quiz policies: Unless otherwise instructed, the use of notes, textbooks, lab manuals, cell phones, laptops, headphones, or other electronic devices is NOT allowed during the quiz. 

Make-up Exams: Make-up exams will only be offered to those with excused absences and proper documentations, no exceptions. Excused absences are described in the "Attendance Policy" section below. ONLY one exam will be made up per student per semester.

Online Homework (Connect)

There will be 12 online LearnSmart Assignments on Connect that are worth 5% of your course grade.

Due dates: Due dates/times coordinate with lecture exam dates and are indicated on the Connect website.

Make-up Exam Policy

You should contact me prior to missing a scheduled examination by email.
I will offer an opportunity to take an alternative examination only to those who make prior contact with me with an excused absence. Only 1 make-up lab OR lecture exam is allowed. For example, missing a lab and lecture exam will result in the opportunity to make-up the first missed exam and a zero on the later missed exam(s).


Lecture make-up exams should be taken at the learning center located in the Academic Building, room 13. 979-830-4442 Lecture make up exams will be given the week before finals. 

Bonus points will be available throughout the semester at the discretion of the instructor. There will be no extra credit projects. No exceptions.

Make up exams need not be identical to regular exams.

Laboratory Safety

Students will be provided with laboratory safety training during the first week of class. Students are expected to follow all safety rules including rules related to proper lab attire. Closed toe shoes and lab coats are required in ALL laboratory sessions. Students that fail to follow this rule, will be required to leave the lab and will be assigned an unexcused absence for the class day.

Civility Statement

Blinn College holds all members of the college community, which includes students, faculty, and staff accountable for their actions and words. Therefore, all members should commit themselves to behave in a manner that respects and demonstrates concern for the dignity, rights, and freedoms of others, including respect for the physical and intellectual property of all members of the college community.

Civility Notification Statement. If a student is asked to leave the classroom because of uncivil behavior, the student may not return to that class until he or she arranges a conference with the instructor; it is the student’s responsibility to arrange for this conference within two school days of being notified of the suspension from class. This statement reflects step one of three possible steps in the incivility process.  The Incivility Protocol is detailed in the Blinn College Catalog and in Blinn College Board Policy FLB (LOCAL).

 

Attendance Policy

Class attendance is essential for student success; therefore, students are required to attend all classes promptly and regularly. A record of attendance is maintained from the first day of classes and/or the first day the student’s name appears on the roster through final examinations.

Students who accrue one week’s worth of absences during the semester will be sent an e-mail through their Buc account requiring them to contact their instructor and immediately schedule a conference to discuss their attendance issues. Students who accumulate two weeks’ worth of unexcused absences may be administratively withdrawn from class. There are four forms of excused absences recognized by the institution:

  1. Observance of religious holy days - Students should notify their instructor(s) no later than the 15th day of the semester concerning the specific date(s) for absences for any religious holy day(s);
  2. Representing the College District at an official institutional function;
  3. Dual credit students representing the high school or independent school district at an official institutional function; and
  4. Military service.

Other circumstances may be considered an excused absence at the discretion of the faculty member with appropriate documentation. College District-mandated attendance policy applies to all coursework; including coursework in developmental/ non-credit courses. Failure to attend developmental classes will also result in removal from the course as defined by the College District. (Blinn College Board Policy FC Local).

It is the student’s responsibility to officially drop a class he or she is no longer attending. (Blinn College Board Policy ECC Local). Students interested in dropping a course or withdrawing from school may do so by logging into myBlinn and clicking on the “My Records” tab, clicking on “add or drop classes” under registration tools, and then selecting the current registration term and “webdrop” from the action drop down menu. The final step is scrolling to the bottom of the page and clicking submit. Students should contact Enrollment Services at 979-830-4800 for assistance with webdrop or to drop due to: severe illness, care for a sick, injured, or needy person, death of a close relative/relation, military duty, military duty of a close relative/relation, or change in work schedule. The last day to drop a class with a Q is set according to the Academic Calendar.

 

Scholastic Integrity

The Scholastic Integrity Policy is located in the Blinn College Catalog, in Blinn College Board Policy FLDB (LOCAL), and the Blinn College Administrative Regulations. A student accused of scholastic dishonesty is entitled to due process as outlined in these documents.
