This is blended class which requires both face to face as well meetings as well as extensive amounts of time spent completing online coursework. All exams must be completed in a proctored environment. Detailed information about proctoring options will be provided in the eCampus course.

Study of the structure and function of human anatomy, including the neuroendocrine, integumentary, musculoskeletal, digestive, urinary, reproductive, respiratory, and circulatory systems. Content may be either integrated or specialized. Anatomy and Physiology II is the second course in a two semester sequence which examines the systems of the human body using an integrated approach.
Prerequisites: Biology 2401 with a grade of "C" or better.

Lecture Based Outcomes
Use anatomical terminology to identify and describe locations of major organs of each system covered.
Explain interrelationships among molecular, cellular, tissue, and organ functions in each system.

Textbook (required): Anatomy Physiology-The Unity of Form and Function, 8th Edition, Saladin, McGraw-Hill. (may be paper textbook or ebook). Temporary free access is available to an ebook to students once they use the link on the main course page to access the McGraw Hill Connect site. Free temporary access is supplied to the students for the first 2 weeks of class as a courtesy by the publisher and does not replace the requirement to have a book for the entire semester.

Visible Body: This online learning tool focuses on helping students to learn anatomical structures. Unlike a textbook, Visible Body allows students to manipulate with image in 3 dimensions. This learning tool is provided to students by Blinn college, so there is no purchase required to use the site.

Required Lab Attire:
- Closed Toe Shoes
- Long Pants or skirt and socks (no leg above the knee showing)
- Non-revealing shirt (no crop tops. low cleavage, or tank tops, etc...)
- Students failing to comply with the lab dress code will be excluded from entry and will receive an unexcused absence for the day.
GENERAL: You are expected to read your book and complete assignments on time. BIOL 2402 is a very demanding and time consuming course so make sure you have a calendar to organize you day and help you to ensure you do not miss any assignments.
Access to the Internet is REQUIRED. Internet access at home would certainly be a plus, however, all students at Blinn College and/or Texas A&M have computing resources available to them. The Open Computer Labs at Blinn College are located in Rooms H-225 and L-258, and the Library. If you are not familiar with these, see me or inquire at the Learning Center in the Library Building, L-258, for more details, ASAP. eCampus is an online course tool and is in essence a virtual classroom through which I will be posting course related materials, grades and other information. You will also be able to contact me with questions and or problems you might be having and have the ability to contact your classmates. All lecture notes can be found on eCampus under the “Lessons” tab, in the “Lecture” folder and are organized by chapter. Before coming into class, you are expected to print the notes so you will be able to concentrate on my lecture and take notes in addition to the bullets that are already on each slide.

LECTURE EXAMS: There will be four exams (closed book, no notes, all electronic equipment including cell phones must be TURNED OFF). Each exam may be a combination of short answer, fill-in-the-blank, multiple choice, identification, and short essay.
Make-up exams are only allowed if a student has an official Blinn approved absence (illness is NOT part of Blinn's approved absences). If approved, makeup exams must be taken within 48 hours of the end of the absence period. If the exam is not taken in this time period, the chance to take the exam is forfeited.
FINAL EXAM: A comprehensive, multiple-choice lecture final will be given at the end of the semester. The questions on the final will be: 80% from the lecture material covered and 20% from the laboratory material. See the makeup exam policy above.
LAB EXAMS: Four lab exams are scheduled throughout the semester and will be taken during regular lab time in the lab room. The exams will cover material previously covered in lab. Questions will be multiple choice. I do not give makeup lab exams. See the makeup exam policy above.
Connect/Smartbook/Learnsmart or ecampus HW assignments are assigned throughout the semester. Each assignment involves reading sections of the chapter and answering questions as you go along. I do not extend deadlines to complete the LearnSmart or CONNECT homework assignments.
LAB ACTIVITIES/QUIZZES: Before coming into lab, you should refer to the On Site Schedule and read the laboratory modules to be performed in lab that day. This will help you to budget your time more efficiently in lab. Each day in lab all students will be completing lab activities that should be studied and on some occasions complete an assignment before coming into the next lab period. Connect/LearnSmart reading assignments and ecampus homework will help to reinforce your knowledge of the information covered in labs, so take them seriously. You will see some of this information on the in class quizzes and lab exams. At the end of most lab periods, quizzes will be completed over previously covered material. Check your daily schedule on this syllabus for the topics to be covered on the quizzes. There are no makeup lab quizzes.

Attendance and Participation Policy
Per Blinn policy, in a summer session, missing one 3 on site class meetings is the equivalent to a 2 week absence. Therefore, missing 3 on site classes may result in a student being administratively dropped from the course.
Grading Feedback Policy
- Homework: Online homework assignments will be automatically graded and scores will be available after completion of the assignment. On occasion there are HW assignments that require hand grading by the instructor. When you encounter these types of assignment, the system will provide your "initial score" which does not include points for the hand graded items. The instructor will hand grade these remaining homework questions within 48 hours of the assignment due date/time and update the grade book.
- Exams: Students will receive an initial score on their exam which includes scoring of all multiple choice, multiple select, and matching questions. Each exam will also include several short answer and/or essay questions that require hand grading. Hand graded items will be scored and the gradebook updated within 72 hours of close of the exam.
- Discussion Forums: Discussions will be graded within 7 days of the close of a topic.
- Late work: Since homeowrk assignments and discussion forums are open for an extended period of time, I expect that students will manage their time and computer access wisely to ensure that assignments are completed by the due date/time, so late work is not accepted.
Academic Integrity / Proctoring
- Students in an online class are expected to abide by the same academic standards for rigor and integrity as students meeting in a face to face format. In that regard, all students in biology courses are required to complete their exams in a proctored environment. In this online class students have the option to complete exams:
- In a Blinn College testing center (free option)
- At another college or university testing center that is approved by the instructor (student is responsible for any fees charged by the other institution).Most third party proctors charge between $25-30 for testing services.
- Remotely via ProctorU.com (student is responsible for any fees charged by ProctorU). Most third party proctors charge between $25-30 for testing services. Additional information to this option is located in eCampus.
- Remotely using Tegrity Test Proctoring and Respondus Lockdown Browser simultaneously. Use of this option requires the use of an external camera (the buitl in camera on a laptop will not be sufficient. Additional information related to this option is located in eCampus.

Lab Safety: All students are required to follow the Blinn College lab safety protocol.
Basic safety rules:
- Students may NOT enter the lab until the instructor is in the lab.
- Before entering the lab, all drinking vessels, electronics and other personal belongings must be stowed inside the student’s backpack or bag and hung on the provided shelves/hooks. Drinks may NOT be visible (side pouch is not acceptable).
- Students cannot enter the lab without proper coverage of the body from the neck to the floor; all skin must be covered.
- Shorts sleeves are allowed, but tank tops are not.
- Students must wear long pants or a long skirt, socks and closed toed shoes.
- In the event that a student is not wearing closed toed shoes, booties can be purchased from the learning center on the second floor of the Library building (Bldg B).
- A student who is not properly dressed for lab will not be able to attend lab for that day and it will be counted as an unexcused absence with no chance to makeup that lab or graded assignment.
- All students are prohibited from eating, drinking, use tobacco products, or applying make-up, including lip moisturizer or lotion.
- Upon entering the lab, students should spray and wipe down their lab bench before placing items on the bench or sitting down.
- Students may have their lab book and a pencil with them at their desk.
- Long hair must be tied back and all dangling jewelry must be removed and placed in the student’s backpack.
- At the end of the lab period, students must again spray and wipe down their lab bench as well as wash their hands and collect their belongings before leaving the lab.
